Using a Pharmacy in Turkey: A Traveller’s Guide
Pharmacies are often the fastest first stop for minor problems. Here is how to use them well.
Pharmacies (eczane) are easy to spot by their red ‘E’ sign, and pharmacists can advise on minor problems such as mild stomach upsets, insect bites or sunburn. Tell them your symptoms and any medicines you already take.
Outside normal hours, look for the on-duty pharmacy, called nobetci eczane. A rota decides which pharmacy stays open overnight and on Sundays, and the address is usually posted in the window of each pharmacy.
If a doctor has sent you an e-prescription, show it on your phone or print it out. Bring the packaging of your regular medicines so the pharmacist can match them, and remember that some medicines are not sold without a prescription.
